Malala Yousafzai; Symbol of Courage and Bravery,,, Izzah Fatima

Whenever i used to sit with my family, usually when it comes to talk about girls education and female activist i would always listen one name; Malala Yousafzai. My brother also have a portrait of Malala hang in his library. I was very eager to know about Malala and her struggle. So My elder brother gifted me a book on passing my grade 4th mid exams. For my excitement Title of the book was “Who is Malala”. The book is written by “Dinah Brown”. I found the book intresting in a way that there i had lot of self explanatory images, showing the major life changes of Malala in a glimpse.

Malala was born in Mingora ,Swat valley on 12 july 1997 in Yousafzai family. Her father name is Ziauddin who is a renowned educationist. Her mother name is Tor Pekai, while She has two siblings Khushal and Atal. Malala is the oldest among her siblings. Malala was named after a Afghan heroin Malalai of Mehwand.

Malala was grown up in an intellectual environment with her father educational and political activities. she was fond of learning new things, writing, reading poems and stories. Her favourite subjects were History , Geography and Science. From very young age She wanted to become a Doctor .

Everthing was going fine until a group of violent terrorist called Taliban attacked Swat . They soon banned girls education. Taliban started destroying girls school everywhere in swat valley. They restricted girls and women to their homes. The Pakistani army arrived to stop them and Mingora became a war zone . Everyone was afraid to go out . Malala wondered how could she become a Doctor if she isn’t allowed to learn. Many schools were closed, only few were open and only some students dared to go there . Malala was studying in her father private school named khushal School. Malala never stop going to school. she talked about girls right to education very bravely. She started writing her diary and shared it with BBC. Taliban came to know about her and were afraid of her activities. On 9th October 2012, while going to school taliban shooted her. Luckily Malala survived, and faced this trauma courageously.  She was sent to hospital in England for further treatment and remained there in exile. That particular day she became the symbol of courage and bravery. She became the voice of millions of girls when in National Youth Assembly she raised her voice and said i am not shouting i am speaking in loud voice for those girls who can’t raise their voice . She was awarded with Nobel Peace Price in 2014 for her struggle. She is the youngest and only pushtun girl Nobel Prize winner, which make her an inspiration throughout the world.

Through this writing i want her to know that she is an inspiration to all the girls throughout the world, and I want to wish a very happy birthday to this powerful girl who always stood high infront of the obstacles of girls education.

Izzah Fatima , the younger sister of Dr. Shahzad, who studies in grade 4 , wrote this on the birthday of Malala Yousafzai
